New York State Crime Victims Board Compensation Services

Crime Victims Assistance services gives hope to victims of all crimes

Opportunities’ Domestic Violence/Rape Crisis program has earned a well-deserved reputation in our community for outstanding advocacy and services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. However, many people are surprised to learn the program also provides advocacy and services to victims of many other types of crimes as well. It’s made possible through funding provided by the New York State Crime Victims Assistance Board. With Opportunities as the designated local contact for Crime Victims Assistance services, people who have been victimized by such crimes as DUI/DWI, robbery, assault (and a host of other crimes) can receive advocacy and other services such as hotline crisis counseling, information and referrals, group support, criminal justice support and legal advocacy, and compensation claims assistance.

Advocates provide or link the victim to the services offered under the program. Of particular importance is helping the victim complete a CVB claim application, which is then forwarded to the Crime Victims Board at the state level. A person from that agency is then assigned by the Crime Victims Board to work with the victim, with our Advocates assisting as necessary.
